generally: Miller Liberatore (they/them) is a theatre director, performer, composer, and creative artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Liberatore's collaborative leadership is all about using theatre as a sociological instrument for community–building. As a trans–nonbinary artist, Liberatore's work is intrinsically deconstructive; every choice is rooted in pursuit of our collective liberation. Liberatore graduated cum laude from Barnard College of Columbia University in NYC with two degrees: sociology (gender/sexuality thesis) and theatre (directing thesis). Their autoethnographic sociological research thesis was titled How Theatre Gives Gender: Acting As A Corporeal Catalyst for Queerness.
currently: This spring, they'll assistant–direct the world premiere of the new musical 5 & Dime at TheatreWorks and understudy the role of Joe/Jimmy Dean.
recently: Liberatore assistant–directed and originated the trans–masc nonbinary character of Dean in TheatreWorks' world premiere of the new musical, Happy Pleasant Valley: A Senior Sex Scandal Murder Mystery Musical (March 2025). Liberatore played Joe/Jimmy Dean in the 2024 TheatreWorks New Works Festival (for the staged reading of the new musical 5 & Dime). Liberatore directed, produced, and hosted the 2023 Portland Trans Voices Cabaret (An Evening in Trans-Galactic Outer Space) after assistant–directing and producing the 2022 edition. Earlier in 2022, Liberatore assistant–directed a new adaptation of The Cherry Orchard for the Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble, composed a mini song cycle (Miller's four songs from the year 2022), and worked as an alumnus composer and musical performer for Barnard’s Sonic Life in NYC.
otherwise: Liberatore has extensive experience working with children of all ages in a variety of theatrical and educational contexts: educational outreach theatre programming at elementary schools (for New Moon Productions in Portland, OR and for Molly Bell in Los Altos, CA); "child–wrangling" actors backstage at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley; credentialed employment with PAUSD, LASD, and MVWSD (public school districts in the Bay Area); after–school elementary programming in Beaverton, OR; preschool programming for the city of Palo Alto, and more. Miller is also a professional college admissions consultant who specializes in helping LGBTQIA+ kids find safe schools, and helping theatre kids audition for college programs (www.MillerCAC.com). They earned their professional C.A.C. credential from U.C. Berkeley (including a practicum at St. Mary's in Medford, OR) and currently serve as the co-chair of the Advocacy committee for HECA (the Higher Education Consultants Association, a nation–wide nonprofit which sets the standard for professionalism amongst IECs). Miller is a full HECA member, a WACAC member, a board member of the new nonprofit Campus Q (aiming to provide a safety resource for LGBTQIA+ college applicants), and a member of IECs for Human Rights (a nonprofit advocacy group). Fun fact: in high school, they were president of the Thespian Club and earned the high school superlative "Most Theatrical," and in Kindergarten, they literally received the classroom award for "Dress–Up and Performing."
